Zephyr Teachout is running for Congress in the Obama +1 NY-19. This is a seat we can flip, as the incumbent Republican is retiring. Teachout has come up with a new tactic and turned it into a great new ad.
Paul Singer, a hedge fund billionaire contributed $500,000 to a super pac supporting her Republican opponent. In response, Teachout got creative and put her opponent, John Faso in his place by demanding to debate, not Faso, but Paul Singer, the man trying to buy Faso.
This is creative on several levels — it’s insulting to her opponent by implying that he’s not as important in the district as the people funding him. It draws attention to the role money plays in campaigns. It contrasts the two campaigns. And it brings out many of the issues Teachout thinks people in the NY-19 think are important.
